How to make a good first impression?

If you're a little anxious about your first day at a new job or your first date, don't worry—we've got you covered!

When it comes to making first impressions, we often feel the need to talk about ourselves and our accomplishments to impress the other person. However, a more practical approach may be a completely different one.

It comes down to one simple thing—being genuinely interested in the other person.

According to Dale Carnegie, "You can make more friends in two months by becoming genuinely interested in other people than you can in two years by trying to get other people interested in you!"

So, here are 4 things you can do to make a good first impression (and it doesn't require much talking!):

  1. Smile at the other person. This instantly conveys goodwill.
  2. Greet them with enthusiasm. Show you are pleased to meet them! (if they see you're interested in them, they're likely to be interested in you too)
  3. Find out topics they're interested in. Bring up their interests in conversation. This could be as simple as checking out their LinkedIn profile or Instagram feed beforehand.
  4. Ask them questions about themselves. Remember that people love talking about themselves. So, be curious about their career, their interests, or simply ask "What are you most excited about right now?"

A good first impression can go a long way and form the foundation of a meaningful relationship. Best of luck!
